Why 1890?

1890 was a pivotal year in American history. Since America's founding, moving westward to the unsettled frontier was always an the calling of those seeking new destinies and possibilities. In 1890, the U.S. Census declared that the frontier was finished, and no more land grants awaited those who made the difficult journey across the continent. Historians, most notably Frederick Jackson Turner, declared, "The frontier has gone, and with its going has closed the first period of American history." In the era that followed--entrepreneurs, innovators, and businessmen had to tap into and utilize technological and industrial advances in order create new frontiers. In just over a century, these advances have already taken us to the moon, the digital age, and into the world in which we live today.
